Dr. Sabbadini-Neves has a background in Pharmacology/Immunology, with a focus on the mechanisms that regulate leukocyte activation in inflammatory conditions. She made substantial contributions related to the understanding of the fundamental mechanisms that regulate secretion of the components that are contained within the intracellular granules of human eosinophils providing novel insights into the receptor-mediated capacities of eosinophil granules to secrete. More recently, the major focus of her research is to investigate mechanisms which trigger DNA extracellular traps release by leukocytes in response to different stimuli, especially fungi. She is currently an associate professor at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
The presentation will focus on the mechanisms involved in the process of DNA extracellular trap release by eosinophils and neutrophils in response to Aspergillus fumigatus. Pro-inflammatory and/or host protective roles for these traps will be discussed, as well as their potential clinical relevance as a therapeutic target.
